Shipping Methods Manager

This section explains how to manage your shipping methods. By default, CORESense provides a variety of standard FedEx and UPS shipping methods. The Shipping Methods Manager enables you to manage existing methods and add new ones as needed. Through the implementation process, it is determined whether you are to calculate shippings costs based on either weight (using cost drivers) or discounted order subtotals. The defaults for both are setup in System Settings > Shipping > Defaults. The instructions below details how to add weight and discounted order subtotal ranges as appropriate.

3

If you are working with either third-party Truseship or Malvern integration, flag that setup by checking the box.

notes.gif Note: contact your CORESense Implementation Consultant to setup this type of integration.

4

From the Type drop-down select the carriers type.

SMM_-_new_type2.png

The following shipping types are available:

  • Custom - A non-integrated shipping carrier such as DHL, uses the weight table and flat rate cost drivers only

  • UPS - A standard UPS shipping method.

  • FedEx - A standard FedEx shipping method.

  • USPS - Standard Unites States Postal Service

  • LTL - Freight delivery methods

NOTE: In order to use Fedex SmartPost you must set the Fedex SmartPost Hub on the warehouse (located under Warehouse Manager > General Attributes) and you must select the Hub closest to your warehouse.

5

Based on the Type selected, the list of available Methods display in the drop-down. Select a shipping method.

6

Select the appropriate options for:

  • PO Box and Military availability

  • Time cutoff

  • COD

  • Saturday deliveries

7

If you need a specific handling mechanism (i.e., white glove delivery), select from the following:

  • Use Global Handling Calculation Rule = This is the default applied to live rates via percentage or dollar amount entered in System Settings > Shipping > Defaults > Live Shipping Adjustment

  • No Handling Charge = no charges to be applied

  • Percentage-based Handling Charge = Enter a percent value in the Amount field

  • Flat-rate Handling Charge = Enter a dollar value in the Amount field

8

Handling charges can also be computed according to the discounted order subtotal, based on a lookup table. These lookup values are unique to each shipping method. If the Handling Charges selector is set to "Charge by Discounted Order Subtotal" then the lookup table "Handling Charge Ranges" is used to calculate handling charges for items that ship with the selected method. If no matching row can be identified, then the handling charge will be returned as $0.00. Note that this handling charge is computed regardless of the SKU shipping driver on the item.

9

Click the Update Attributes button. The shipping method is now created and the status is automatically set to Active.

Continue with adding Applicable Weight Ranges as needed.

Add Applicable Weight Ranges

Weight table ranges enable you to calculate order shipping prices by the total weight of SKUs in the order.

Step

Action

1

From the Shipping Methods Manager, select the Method you want to add weight ranges to.

SMM_-_weight.png

2

The Applicable Weight Ranges section displays the following information for each weight range:

  1. Weight - The total weight range.

  2. Price - The shipping price.

3

To add new weight ranges, enter the number of weight ranges you wish to add, and then click Add. The Applicable Weight Ranges section refreshes to display the new rows.

tip.PNGTip: It is recommended that you create weight ranges in case UPS or FedEx real-time calculations is not working.

4

For each new row, enter the Weight and Price.

SMM_-_weight_add2.png

notes.gif Notes: For each entered weight, you can select weight lbs, kg or oz units. Once updated, CORESense automatically performs the conversion to lbs.

Note: By entering a weight that is within an existing weight range, CORESense automatically splits the weight range and uses the entered price as the lower range. For example, if you are entering a weight of 75 lbs and for $20 and a weight range of 50 - 100 lbs for $22.50 already exists, CORESense sets a weight range of 50 - 75 lbs for $20 and 75 - 100 lbs for $22.50.

5

Click Update Weights and the ranges display.

SMM_-_weight3.png

6

To remove a weight range, click on the Delete link next the range. The system prompts you to confirm the deletion.

7

After weight table is complete, assign the SKU Driver Type of Weight Table in the SKU Shipping Driver Manager for all appropriate shipping methods and then apply it to the SKUs.

Order Subtotal Ranges

The Order Subtotal Ranges is a feature that can be used if you are setup to use Order Subtotals to determine your shipping costs in lieu of shipping cost drivers. This function allows you to assign specific rates on individual subtotal amounts in either dollar or percentage values.

Step

Action

1

From the Shipping Methods Manager, go to the Order Subtotal Ranges box and click Add.

.image733.gif

2

Enter the subtotal threshold that needs to be met in order to receive the discount.

image734.gif

3

Enter the Rate and then select either Dollar or Percentage from the drop-down list.

4

Click Update and the new range is listed below.

image735.gif

5

Repeat above steps for any additional subtotal ranges.

6

To remove a range, click on the Delete link next the range. The system prompts you to confirm the deletion.

7

If you have designated products that are excluded from shipping costs, check the "Exclude Products" box so that they are not calculated in the order subtotal.

image736.gif

NOTE: To setup method exclusion at product level, go to Product > Channel and select the shipping method to be excluded from the "Product Exclusion from Shipping Price Calculation" box list. (see image) Repeat for each channel as needed.

8

Select Discounted Order Subtotal for each channel you want to use the Subtotal ranges.

image233.gif

Note: When selecting the Discounted Order Subtotal option, you do not need to make any selections in the SKU Shipping Driver Manager. If you are switching from cost drivers to order subtotals, the system overrides any existing cost driver settings.

Duplicate a Shipping Method

Duplicating an existing Shipping Method is an effective way to create a new method more quickly. If there is an existing method that is similar in attributes and weight tables, it is much easier to duplicate it than to create a new one.

Step

Action

1

From the Shipping Methods Manager, click on an existing method that you want to replicate from the list.

.SMM_-_weight.png

2

Click on the Duplicate Shipping Method button.

SMM_-_duplicate.png

3

The status displays as Inactive and the Method Label is renamed as a copy of the original.

SMM_-_duplicate2.png

4

5

Click Update Attributes once all changes are made.

6

Make any changes to the Weight Ranges and click Update Weights.

7

Shipping Cost Calculation

A cost calculation method needs to be identified per channel. You can choose to have costs calculated based on order weight or discounted order subtotal. The latter is typically used for retailers with a strong catalog presence.

  • Shipping cost  = Cost Driver Calculation choice:

    • Real-time

    • Fixed Price

    • Weight Table

Discounted Order Subtotal
