Deal Manager Overview
Purpose
To provide an efficient
automated tool for creating and managing a variety of promotions, discounts,
and/or sales. A deal in CORESense is a way to discount an individual or
group of products. This deal can be set to activate on a specific date/time
or to always be in effect. There is a multitude of attributes to group
the like products together to accomplish the same discount amount.
|
Important:
Below are some system settings to consider when creating deals:
By default, products that have been
assigned a Permanent Markdown pricing are NOT eligible for
any additional discounts that are defined in the Deal Manager.
Once a product is on Permanent Markdown, no additional discounts
can be applied. If you want permanent markdowns to be eligible
for deals, activate the following system setting: Order Lifecycle
> Orders > Allow Deals
On Permanent Markdowns.
By default, a product's upgrade (+
Retail) pricing is NOT eligible for any additional discounts
that are defined in the Deal Manager. Deals are applied against
the base price only. If you want upgrades to be eligible for
deals, activate the following system setting: Order Lifecycle
> Orders > Apply Deal
Discounts to Upgrade Price.

Deal Calculations
There are three levels of discounts: item level, order level and shipping
level. The following calculations are applied at each level.
- Only one promotion
at each level can be applied – if multiples exist, then the best deal
is applied.
- If one of the deals
is exclusive, that deal is applied regardless of dollar value.
- If
there is a coupon applied, it trumps all other deals.
The system logic functions
according to the following decision tree, which is applied at each level
(product/item, order subtotal and shipping.)
You cannot "stack" multiple deals on the same deal level, the
system will compare any two deals within the same level and apply the
one with the greater discount.

There are two different
ways a deal is calculated: using coupon code or promotion.
Coupon Codes
If there is a coupon code
associated to the deal, the dollars or percentage off is calculated at
the shopping cart level. The consumer enters the coupon code and the new
total is reflected.
A
single coupon deal can be applied at each level (product/item, order
subtotal and shipping) provided they are not
exclusive.
If
there are multiple coupons that are each exclusive, only one with
the best deal is applied. Only one exclusive deal can be applied against
a single order.
Promotions
The promotion deal is calculated
on the product detail page. When the consumer navigates to a product detail
page, the discounted price is displayed in the “Sale” field (depending
on HTML of website.)
Depending on the type of
promotion, some of the deals are applied at the product level (deal is
based on the purchase of particular items), at the order level (deal is
based on the order sub-total, regardless of what items are purchased)
or as a shipping discount ( shipping cost is discounted on order sub-total). The table below outlines
the deal types available through the Deal Manager and the associated levels.
Deal Types
The table below describes the six different
deal types available in the Deal Manager, what level that they are associated
to and where the discount is applied.
Deal
Type |
Description |
Level |
Where Applied |
Buy
X Get Y |
Purchase
product X and receive product Y at a discounted price or free.
Both products must be in the shopping cart to properly reflect
the discount. For example, buy one pair of shoes and get an equal
or lesser value shoe for 50% off. |
Item |
Product/Line
Item |
Free
Gift |
Receive
a free gift when another product is purchased. This is product
specific. For example, buy the winter boots and get free
boot socks.
This
is useful for a club membership purchase, i.e. Sign up
for club membership, get a free product on the first shipment.
When a customer adds a product to the shopping cart that satisfies
a "Free Gift" deal AND there is only 1 GET product that
applies to the deal, that product is automatically added to the
shopping cart. |
Item |
Product/Line Item |
Promotional
Discount |
A product
(or product group) is placed “on sale” when a percent discount
is used. The discount can be expressed in either a percentage
or dollar amount. The discount is reflected in the shopping cart
rather than the product detail page if the Starting Quantity is
set to 1 or greater. If left blank, the discount is displayed
on the Category and Product pages of the website.
Note:
If a coupon is applied, the discount is reflected on the impacted
product detail pages. |

Product/Line Item |
Order
Free Gift |
A
free gift is offered on an order based on order subtotal, regardless
of what items are being purchased. For example, spend $150 and
receive a free hat. The 100% discount is applied to that item
(the hat) once it is added to the cart provided that the order
subtotal of the other cart items meets the deal threshold ($150). |
Item |
Order Subtotal |
Shipping
Discount |
Offer a
discount on one or more shipping methods. For example, Free Ground
shipping for orders over $50 or $5 off express shipping. |

Order
Discount |
A discount
on an order subtotal and not
associated with particular products. For example, spend $100 and
receive 20% off your order total. |

Set Product and Customer Criteria
Once the General and Detail
attributes are set, use the menu bar to navigate to the Product and Customer
screens.

The table below describes
the purpose of each of the criteria setting functions.

in or excluded from the promotion. The
number in parenthesis indicates the number of products included
in the promotion based on the product criteria. This number changes
as products are added to or excluded from the promotion. If the number is
zero (0), no products are included in the promotion and a warning displays on the General Attributes
screen.

|
Customer

Select customer fields to
include and/or exclude records from the promotion |

apply to the promotion. |
