SKUs are what you purchase from vendors. Products are what you sell. The SKUs associated to a product are called the products's inventory requirements. The Product-SKU model supports a simple product - 1 product to 1 SKU, a kitted product - 1 product with multiple skus or a configurable product; 1 SKU for every product configuration, e.g size and color combination for a shirt.
SKUs can be created using the Inventory Manager, the New Product Wizard or through Data Import. SKUs can be edited using the Inventory Manager of Data Import tool. A new SKU can also be created by duplicating an existing SKU and then editing the new SKU as needed. See Duplicate a SKU .

Follow the steps below to create a new SKU and manage the General Attributes.

In the Filter By SKU Information filter box, enter a name in the SKU field and click on the New SKU button. |

The system prompts you to confirm the new SKU. Click OK. |

Complete the General Attribute fields as described below. Short Description – This is a reference for internal purposes that provides additional identifying information for the SKU. Important: This value is not displayed on purchase orders. Instead, a separate SKU identifier is assigned to each vendor from which you purchase the inventory. SKU - This is a unique identifier up to 45 characters in length Description - A description of the SKU, between 15 and 100 characters. This value is displayed on most customer and vendor facing communications including picking and packing documents, and purchase orders sent to the vendor. Manufacturer- The SKU manufacturer. Note: The SKU manufacturer is used solely for internal informational purposes including searching and reporting. Default Fulfillment Method - The default fulfillment method pre-selected for the SKU when sourcing order inventory. For a description of all fulfillment methods, see Inventory Fulfillment Methods. Discontinued - Check this if the SKU is no longer available. Click the Update SKU button to save your entries or Reset to clear entries and start over. |

Continue to assign Shipping Methods. |

Continue to assign Vendors and create Vendor SKUs. . |

Continue to assign Reordering to setup automated reordering for this SKU for one or more Locations. |
